At your first visit, we will complete a comprehensive orthodontic evaluation. We will evaluate the growth and development of the dentition, take measurements of the bite and size of the teeth in relation the jaw, evaluate the TMJ for symptoms, and review any oral habits that can affect treatment. From this initial visit, we will determine the need and timing of any orthodontic treatment.
If a patient is still developing and is not yet ready for treatment, we will recommend that the patient be placed into an observation phase where we will follow growth and development, every 6-12 months, to determine the appropriate time for treatment.
If a patient is ready for treatment, prior to the placement of braces or other orthodontic appliances the patient will be scheduled for initial study models. Also, a referral to an orthodontic imaging lab will be provided, to obtain diagnostic records. This will allow the orthodontist to complete a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan. The diagnosis and treatment plan are then reviewed at a subsequent consultation appointment. At the consultation, we will review the findings of the records and study models and discuss with the parents the treatment options available for orthodontic treatment.
